Anteater Tenants United is a renter-led union fighting for safe, affordable housing for UCI students, employees, and their families. As tenants, our access to housing is controlled by property owners, and we have limited legal protections. However, by building collective power as a tenants union, we can demand a say in our housing conditions and organize against abuses of power by our landlords.
Housing is a
Human Right

Housing insecurity disproportionately affects people of color, first generation college students, workers supporting dependents, international students, and other minoritized groups. As a public university, it is UCI’s responsibility to ensure equitable access to education and employment for all its affiliates. We believe UCI cannot expect to benefit from our labor and tuition without actively advocating for sufficient affordable housing in its vicinity. Through our united effort, we hold UCI accountable to its mission and resist efforts to prioritize profits over people.

4.
Eliminate rent burden. We demand that no more than 30% of a worker's income goes to their university housing costs.
Create transparency around housing assignments and waitlists. We are entitled to be informed about how decisions are made to allocate campus housing.
Cease placing holds on students’ academic records, including access to campus services, enrollment, and graduation for failure to pay rent.
Provide all students with affordable and secure housing and housing subsidies appropriate to the local cost of living.
